Below is a step by step guide on how you can clean dog pee from cloth car seats.
# Step 1: Blot clean the urine
Use a clean dry absorbent towel or paper towel to blot clean the urine stain immediately. This will help to prevent the urine from getting deeper into the car seat.
Remember to use a clean towel. If you use a dirty towel it can stain the seat further.
#Step 2: Use a cleaning solution
Once you have blotted the urine from the seat, you need to prepare a cleaning solution that will remove the stain and odor and disinfect the car seat.
You can use a number of cleaning solutions effectively. Here we have prepared a guide on 2 cleaning solutions that you can safely use on your cloth car seats.
Cleaning solution 1: Water, dish soap and white vinegar
In a clean small bowl, gently mix 2 cups of cold water, 1 table spoon of liquid dish soap and 1 table spoon of white vinegar.
The white vinegar will help to disinfect the car seat and break down the acid present in the urine stain.
Dip a clean cloth in the cleaning solution you have prepared. Gently sponge or blot the area of the car seat that has the urine stain with the cloth.
Do not wipe or smear the cleaning solution on the car seat. Additionally, avoid soaking the car seat with the cleaning solution as it will be difficult to dry.
It is advisable to start dabbing the stain from the outside part of the start and work towards the center. This will help prevent the stain from spreading further into the seats.
Cleaning solution 2: Hydrogen peroxide, dish soap and baking soda
This is a more hands off method that allows you to spray the cleaning solution to the pee stain.
In a clean medium sized bowl, gently mix 10 ounces of 3% hydrogen peroxide, 3 table spoons of baking soda and 2 drops of liquid dish soap.
Baking soda neutralizes the ammonia molecules from the urine while and absorbs any unpleasant odor from the car.
Let the solution rest for a few minutes to allow the foam to recede then pour the cleaning solution into a spray bottle.
Spray the cleaning solution you have made on the entire area that is stained with urine.
Let the solution sit for an hour or more depending on your schedule.
Use a clean dump cloth to gently dap the area to remove excess detergent or hydrogen peroxide residues. This can attract dirt or change the coloring of your car seats if left to sit for too long.
# Step 3: Blot dry the cleaning solution
After cleaning the urine stain using either solution 1 or solution 2 above, use a clean dry towel or cloth to blot dry the excess solution from the car seat.
Gently dab the area with the clean dry towel or cloth until it is completely dry and all the cleaning solution has been removed from the car seat.
# Step 4: Allow the seats to air dry
Allow the car seat to air dry for a few more minutes until the seat is completely dry before the car seat can be used again.
Note however that this is not necessary if you choose to use solution 2.

If you have suede, unfinished leather or any other type of leather, ensure that you use a cleaner that is specific for the type of leather that you have.

Allow the seat stuffing to air dry under the sun if possible. This ensures that the stuffing dries faster and helps to remove the pee odor from the stuffing.
Make sure that the stuffing is completely dry before you use it again.
#Step 5: Dry the leather
Let the leather air dry in a cool indoor location if possible. Do not dry the leather under the sun as this can harden the leather material or bleach it.
